B Cells

B cells originate from stem cells in the bone marrow.

They continue their differentiation within the bone marrow and peripherally, where they cluster in the germinal centers of lymph nodes and in the lymphoid follicles of the spleen.

The presence of surface immunoglobulin is characteristic.

Approximately 15% of circulating peripheral blood lymphocytes are B cells.

Plasma cells develop from activated B cells; they make large amounts of specific antibody.
